Writing in Place: An Online Writing Community

Call for Participants

2022–2023

We invite anyone interested in the place-based dimensions of environmental history and the environmental humanities to join us in virtual writing workshop for the 2022-2023 academic year. Each member of this writing group will commit to discussing a small set of place-based readings, contributing excerpts of their own works-in-progress, and participating in a monthly virtual writing workshop. Depending on interest, we may also create smaller writing accountability groups in between the monthly meetings.

In 2021-2022, the workshop had fourteen participants from a diversity of career stages, geographical locations, and disciplinary perspectives, and participants finished manuscripts, won fellowships, and enjoyed some virtual intellectual fellowship. We expect this year’s workshop to be similarly generative for ongoing research and new collaborative projects. We also plan to submit a proposal for a roundtable in an academic journal based on the workshop.

The workshop is facilitated by William Thomas Okie, Associate Professor of History and History Education at Kennesaw State University, and Andrew C. Baker, Associate Professor of History at Texas A&M Commerce. Prospective participants should submit a short CV and a brief (200-word) statement of interest to Andrew.Baker@tamuc.edu by August 25.
