Policies and Processes for Manuscript Submissions

  1. To qualify for peer review, manuscripts MUST be written in English, originally researched, historically/historiographically engaged, and be fully cited using endnotes. Please do not submit pieces that have been published or are under consideration elsewhere.
  2. All manuscripts must be submitted online via our ScholarOne site, found here: https://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/aghistory. Please follow the instructions closely
  3. All manuscripts should be:
    • In Microsoft Word format (doc. or docx.)
    • Double-spaced
    • No longer than 8,000 words of text and no more than 4,500 words of endnotes/footnotes
    • Complete with endnotes that are also double-spaced
    • Written in accordance with Chicago Manual of Style (16th Edition)
  4. Any style questions can be answered by reference to the Chicago Manual of Style (16th Edition) or by contacting our editorial office: aghistory@kennesaw.edu.
  5. Potential illustrations (jpg, gif, tiff only) should be uploaded as separate files along with the submission. Please do not embed images or tables within the manuscript.
  6. Once received and evaluated as appropriate for Agricultural History, the manuscript will be sent out for double-blind peer review. Please upload a separate title page with your name and contact information, and be sure that the main document is free of any identifying information in both the text and endnotes. The peer-review process can take up to four months.
  7. Please use ScholarOne for all resubmissions, even if you submitted the original manuscript via our previous submission process.
  8. If the manuscript is accepted for publication, the author will be required to:
    1. Make changes to the piece in response to comments from the reviewers and the editor.
    2. Acquire photo-ready copies and permission-to-use for all illustrations
    3. Resubmit the manuscript to our ScholarOne site.
  9. The revised manuscript will be fact checked and edited by the journal staff before being sent back to the author for final changes and approval. At this stage, no substantial rewrites are possible.
  10. Please send all other inquiries to aghistory@kennesaw.edu.
